After an extended hiatus, we are reviving the Notice of Appeal blog and shifting its focus. Previously, we attempted to analyze noteworthy decisions on a weekly basis as they were issued by the Washington Supreme Court and the Washington Court of Appeals. Moving forward Notice of Appeal will concentrate on the Washington Supreme Court’s docket, including both petitions for review and merits appeals.
As part of this change, the blog will feature a new format and content. Before scheduled Department conferences, we intend to highlight pending petitions for review and the significant issues they present in short, reader-friendly summaries under a new “Petitions for Review” tab. Below is a summary of many of the petitions for review the Court’s Special Department will consider on August 5, 2013. For cases in which review is granted, we intend to examine the issues presented through briefing, argument, and opinion under a new “Pending Cases” tab.
Our goal in publishing Notice of Appeal is to increase awareness about legal developments in Washington. We would like the blog to be a collaborative project and welcome suggestions and substantive contributions. If you are involved in a pending appeal or believe a particular issue should be highlighted, we would like to hear from you. In addition, if you are involved in a pending petition for review, please send us copies of the briefing to aid in developing summaries and for posting on the blog.
The Notice of Appeal website will undergo some appearance changes in the coming months. We would like to receive feedback on these revisions. Thank you for your continued reading.
